  1. Hi Jim,

    Thanks for posting the article on the home hub extender setup. This was really useful.

    I’m intrigued as to the board game on your web banner/main image. Is this a chess set or a different Chinese board game? I really like the look of the baord set so if you remember what it is/where you bought it then I’d really like to know.

    Thanks,

    Justin

  2. Hi Justin. The picture of the chess set is a standard image that comes with WordPress, the software that powers this blog. Specifically, it is part of the “twenty eleven” theme. Unfortunately I don’t know anything more about it, even after checking on Google. It is a nice looking board, sorry I can’t be more helpful.

  3. Hi Jim;
    I’m interested in your Simple Picture Gallery on Raspberry Pi. I’m a Unix/Raspian novice. Should I be concerned that the tutorial was published over 5 years ago? If things have changed enough for it to fail on my Pi, I may not be able to resolve issues.
    My Pi is a 3B that came pre-configured. I have added CUPS for print server, and FEH to experiment with images.
    Thanks.

    • Hi Geoff,

      The procedure should still work. It uses imagemagick, which is still a supported package, and available for the latest Raspbian releases. I don’t think anything has changed in that respect. Give it a try.

      Cheers,
      Jim

  4. Hi Jim;
    Well, I only got to page 3 of the tutorial, no issues up to this point – then had an issue running gallery.sh:
    pi@raspberrypi:/var/www/pictures $ ~/gallery.sh “Pam iPad 2017”
    zip error: Nothing to do! (Pam iPad 2017.zip)
    ls: cannot access ‘Pam iPad 2017.zip’: No such file or directory

    FYI There are many images in ‘pictures’ directory with filenames like
    ‘IMG_0004.JPG’
    Do you have a suggestion?

    Thanks
    Geoff

    • Hi Geoff,

      The script is designed for lower case file names, whereas yours are upper case. I have modified it to deal with upper case names too. Download it again and try the new version.

      Jim.

  5. Hi Jim;
    Well, I ran the revised gallery.sh and it worked perfect. The “pictures” folder contains the pics and thumbnails. Thank you.

    But when I access through the browser (Firefox) I get ‘unable to connect’. If I don’t include the pictures folder name in the URL, I get the prior default page “Apache2 Debian Default Page”. Maybe this is something to do with permissions – I don’t know. (This is possibly irrelevant, but my router is set to forward port 80 to another host, so I set the Pi to use port 8080.)

    Anyway, I will figure it out.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Regards
    Geoff

  6. Hi-

    I’ve been following your automatic nextcloud installation guide, and it works flawlessly, up to mounting a hard drive to use as the storage. You said “mount your disk at a suitable location” I’m a total noob. How do I mount a disk in order to work with your code. Thank you very much for your help!
